Preview Performance: “The longest night and the longest day of the year”

“The longest night and the longest day of the year” is a lecture-performance. Host: Polina Struzhkova It is based on research into both ancient and modern traditions, images, events, rituals, stories, movies, and beliefs that surround two opposite and main events of the year: Christmas and New Year in winter, and Jaanipäev in summer. The director, Polina Struzhkova, started this research while creating Christmas shows for children and continued because of her growing interest in the material. In this performance, the director becomes the lecturer and the actress, while analyzing the common threads in the traditions and imagery of midwinter and midsummer celebrations across different times and countries. This research combined with the life experiments in imagination, reveals the universal processes that unite people at those points of the year and gives to the audience keys to understanding their own inner paths.
